Ladislav Kovačič

Ladislav Kovačič currently works as an orthopaedic trauma surgeon in Arbormea – artro center in Ljubljana, Slovenija.

Institution is one of the major centres in Slovenija devoted to articular injuries, sports traumatology, and arthroscopic surgery. Previously, he worked in the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, which is the leading medical institution in the country and comprises the major trauma unit. He was daily involved in the treatment and management of injured patients. For several years, his special expertise has been the management of injuries and disorders of the shoulder girdle. Open and arthroscopic surgical procedures are used in his hands for the surgical treatment of shoulder pathology. His scientific work includes authorship in scientific publications, he presented his works on international scientific conferences, he is author and co-editor of several books on shoulder pathology. He also works as reviewer for international scientific journals in field of orthopaedics and sports traumatology. Nowadays, he is regularly involved in education process, whether in the combination with his clinical practice or attending special courses as an international faculty member for trauma and shoulder surgery. Together with his team, he regularly organizes cadaveric course for arthroscopy in Ljubljana, which is popular traditional educational event. He is member of several international associations and is actively involved in the work of ESSKA. He was chairman of ESA - shoulder section of ESSKA in the years 2020-2022.

Our hospital was founded in 1909 as a sanatoryum for bone diseases for the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After World War I it was renovated by the American Red Cross. In 1920 it was taken over by the Italian Red Cross and after WW II Valdoltra became part of Yugoslavian health systeme. It turned to orthopaedics and in early 1961 was renamed Valdoltra Orthopaedic Hospital.
